KLM
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is a worldwide airline company based in
the Netherlands. It comprises the core of the KLM Group, which
further includes KLM Cityhopper, transavia.com and Martinair. KLM
works very closely with Air France within the AIR FRANCE KLM Group,
which exists since the two companies merged in 2004. The AIR FRANCE
KLM Group is Europe's leading Group in the Airline business.
Strategy and core business
AIR FRANCE KLM's strategy can be expressed as: one Group, two
Airlines, and three Core Businesses. KLM's core businesses are
passenger transport, cargo shipment, and aircraft
maintenance.
Worldwide network
KLM and Air France each operate their own networks within a
Dual-Hub Strategy. The two hubs are Air France's home base, Paris
Charles de Gaulle and KLM's home base, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Together with its partners, KLM offers passengers and cargo
shippers more than 250 destinations, whether non stop connections
or links to secondary destinations.
SkyTeam
Both KLM and Air France are members of SkyTeam, one of the global
airline alliances. With ten member airlines as of 2009, SkyTeam is
the world's second-largest alliance in terms of market share. As
SkyTeam members, Air France and KLM play an important role in North
America, Europe, and Asia. And together with Kenya Airways, they
enjoy a strong position in Africa as well.
Aims
KLM's works to achieve profitable growth that contributes to its
own corporate aims as well as to economic and social
development.
Offering reliability and a healthy dose of Dutch pragmatism, KLM
provides customers with innovative products and safe, efficient and
service-oriented operations paying proactive attention to the
environment and corporate social responsibility. Since four years,
Air France KLM is the leading airline group in the Dow Jones
Sustainability indexes, and the only airline in the "Global 100"
list. /p>
KLM works to create sustainable growth at Schiphol Airport, to gain
access to every market that will increase the quality of the
network options it offers to its customers, and to maintain a level
playing field for all industry players. It also works to ensure a
balance between the company's interests and those of the people
living and working close to the airport.
Employer KLM
As a major Dutch employer, KLM pays specific attention to staff
flexibility, mobility, participation, and health. Rapid changes in
technology and customer markets demand that KLM is able to flexibly
adapt its organisation. This flexibility is also asked from
individual employees.
To be able to anticipate change, employees are encouraged to expand
their skills and knowledge through training, and to change jobs
from time to time. This broadens their prospects within KLM and the
KLM Group, enriches competences and increases creativity and
flexibility.
Fiscal 2008-2009: the facts
In fiscal 2008-2009 the KLM Group transported 23.5 million
passengers and more than 606.000 tons of Air France and KLM cargo.
It performed maintenance and technical modifications on aircraft,
engines and components for many different airlines. The KLM Group
operates a modern fleet of 214 aircraft. During that year, the KLM
Group employed almost 34.000 staff (excluding Martinair, including
